At COMPETE 2030’s most recent “Good Conversations” event, we welcomed Eduardo Matos, from Microsoft, where employees had the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in this field.

During the informal chat, Eduardo Matos, Technology Lead for Microsoft’s Public Sector market, explored the vast potential of AI and its impact on everyday activity. From automating repetitive tasks to analysing data and personalising products and services, AI is transforming businesses around the world.

‘How we can innovate and with a set of tools deliver something better to our clients, that’s the motto for using AI.’

With constant technological advances in the economy, it’s crucial to be prepared for the future of AI by adapting and fostering creativity. In this way, we can implement innovation in our own work and contribute to the growth of Portuguese companies in the digital world.

Eduardo Matos has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. At Microsoft Portugal since 2013, he leads technology adoption strategies to drive innovation and progress in the Public Sector market.

‘Our strategy is to integrate AI capabilities into our various products.’

This internal event provided a valuable opportunity for COMPETE 2030 employees to familiarise themselves with AI and reflect on its transformative potential in society and business.

‘The idea is not to replace the team of developers, but to be more agile in day-to-day management.’

By way of example, Eduardo mentioned that AMA – the Agency for Administrative Modernisation – has moved to the forefront of innovation by adopting Microsoft 365 Copilot. This move makes it one of the first public organisations to integrate this advanced technology internally.

Copilot combines the power of large language models with Microsoft Graph data – calendar, emails, chats, documents, meetings and more – and Microsoft 365 apps. This integration has the potential to significantly increase employee productivity by automating tasks and providing tools to facilitate data analysis and decision-making.

At a time when concerns about the use of artificial intelligence are growing, this meeting revealed valuable insights into how companies and organisations in Portugal are implementing it.

If this topic piques your interest, you should know that we have dedicated a newsletter to Artificial Intelligence (441). In it, we reported that the European Parliament had approved the Regulation on Artificial Intelligence (AI), we shared how AI is shaping the future of companies in the country. We also highlight two co-funded projects: RAID.Piracy – focused on combating audiovisual content piracy and PRiiMe – an intelligent machine at the service of the automotive industry.
