João Portugal Ramos has boosted its international expansion with a project co-funded by COMPETE 2020. The initiative made it possible to launch two new wines and consolidate the brand’s presence in various markets.

Expansion into new markets

The project aimed to increase the company’s sales and awareness on several continents. The strategy included adapting products, exploring new distribution channels and associating wines with local culture.

In the USA, the company reinforced the launch of new wines. In Angola, it expanded distribution to other cities. In Asian markets, it invested in marketing consultancy. In Colombia, it benefited from a partnership with the Jerónimo Martins group. In Sweden, it invested in premium products and new sales channels.

Promotion and global visibility

To strengthen its international presence, João Portugal Ramos organised prospecting trips, took part in global competitions and promoted advertising campaigns. Sending samples to potential clients and appearing in specialised media helped consolidate brand awareness.

The company was present at events in Belgium, Canada and the UK, ensuring that its wines were assessed by experts. These initiatives have strengthened consumer confidence and opened doors to new business.

‘COMPETE has been present throughout the growth of the João Portugal Ramos Group, and within the scope of the JPR Diversification project – POCI-02-0752-FEDER-000892, it has been possible to achieve the defined objectives:

▪ To launch two new products in international markets;
▪ To consolidate its presence in the markets in which it operates,’ said João Maria Ramos, Winemaker.

Innovation and design

Design played a fundamental role in the success of the project. The brand invested in adapting the image of the products to the target audience and market trends.

In research and development, the partnership with the Catholic University of Porto made it possible to optimise production processes. The aim was to improve the quality of the wines and develop innovative production control systems.

With this project, João Portugal Ramos has strengthened its position as a world reference in the wine sector. The support of COMPETE 2020 was decisive for the brand’s growth and internationalisation.
